Lower Tailgate

Time has come now to repair the lower tailgate.

The liftgate is new now, but the old one was in such a state that the water entered the rear of the car and gradually, corroded the steel profile supporting the rubber seal at the bottom of the gate as well as the floor itself at the back end.

What I found after removing the rubber seal :

Already at first glance I told to myself ther will be some work.

And the after clearing a little big rust, i thought...

"It's going to be quite a big job !"

Is it serious, doctor ?

After cleaning a bit with the grinder :

Then I choose to repair as I did for the rusted floor, i.e. using fiberglass and resin to make a strong support and then epoxy resin to make a smooth surface.

I put an aluminium profile to restore the support of the rubber seal.

Closer view, where you can see the seal I put between the repaired floor and the aluminium profile.

After polishing the floor I painted everything in the original color (but I forgot to take a picture :-( I'll try to take one soon...)
